FAQ
So I've Signed Up - What's Next?
- Before Where's My Spam can start filtering your email, you first must
change your mail (MX) records
to reference our spam servers. These must be changed through the company or
individual who manages your domain name's DNS records.
When you contact them, be sure to have them remove any existing records that
directly reference your
mail server, and in its place only have one (1) mail (MX) record with a
weight of 10 point to:
spam.wheresmyspam.com
Once this change has been made by your DNS provider, it can take anywhere
from 10 minutes to 2 days
to fully propagate to DNS servers across the internet
I'm Running Microsoft Exchange/Novell GroupWise - What
Else Is Needed?
- Before you change your mail (MX) records, you will want configure your
network to allow our spam
servers to communicate directly with your mail server to ensure any inbound
mail has a mailbox for its
intended recipient. This bonus feature not only helps keep unnecessary
traffic from hitting your network,
which in turn saves you bandwidth, but also keeps your mail server
processing power lower and mail
queues cleaner, so your systems are processing your important messages.

How Can I Further Minimize Inbound Spam?
- Besides using Where's My Spam to filter your inbound messages, you
should configure your mail server to
ONLY allow inbound mail from our spam servers. To do this, you must deny
ALL inbound traffic from
any source but our IP addresses:
74.202.26.131 (primary device)
207.40.41.133 (secondary device)
Any legitimate email server wishing to make connection with yours will
always check your mail (MX)
records to see where to deliver mail, and when they see it reference
spam.wheresmyspam.com, your
mail will filter through our service and then be relayed to your mail
server's IP address properly. Anyone
that tried to deliver mail directly to your IP most likely will be a
spammer.
We recommend performing this only after your DNS records have been changed
for one week to ensure
your mail (MX) records have had adequate time to propagate across the
internet.
